HISTORY

Casa La Atarraya was founded by the husband and wife team of Robert and Maria Hamilton. During the early 1990s they worked with refugee youth in San Salvador who were victims of the armed conflict of the time. Through feeding programs, trade classes, and outreach they helped thousands of youth who were caught in the crossfire of a civil war. After the Peace Accords were signed in 1992 they moved to Ahuachapán, El Salvador. Here they worked with the underserved rural populations of the coffee mountains. What started as a small gathering of children in need has turned into an academic initiative which focuses on innovation for rural regions. Maria and Robert also count with the help of their five children Jennifer (Director of Development, CUW Graduate), Eric, Caleb, Joshua, and Jacob.
